Secret Postcard Auction

claire's picture

Artists are invited to create original postcard-sized artworks to feature in an exhibition and auction of work by new and internationally-acclaimed artists, illustrators and designers. The profits from all sales will support the reopening of the historic Margate Caves.

Reflecting the mysteries of the Caves, postcards will be exhibited with the artist’s name kept secret. Past exhibitors in the annual Margate event (which has supported a range of charities) include Tracey Emin, Grayson Perry, Paul Hazelton, Quentin Blake, Zandra Rhodes  Vic Reeves, and Dawn Cole.

Margate Caves were closed in 2004. Since then, local people have been working to reopen them - and in 2017, announced that successful lottery bids totalling £1.5 million meant a new visitor centre and village hall for Cliftonville could be built and the historic Caves reopened. Work commences in autumn 2017 and the Caves reopen in 2019.
