Crowdfunder Results

Six weeks ago, The Margate Caves Community Education Trust launched our first Crowdfunder.

Thanks to 166 pledges, ranging from £1 to £1000, we raised over £10,000 which means we can now start our activity programme ahead of the build. This is really important work. We will now meet and work with a range of local people, groups and organisations to make sure we deliver exactly what they want on the site – from the interpretation across the site, to the gardens behind, and from the menu in the cafe to the activity in the community rooms. That’s what those pledges will support, and it’s why they are so important.

Our archaeology plan is now with Kent County Council, and once they’ve signed off we’ll start work on the site.

In the meantime, we’re doing a huge amount of behind-the-scenes work to make sure all our financial systems are in place, and our financial plans and cashflow forecasts are ready for building to start. It’s a complex project, with multiple funders, on a very difficult site – so we’re keeping a very close eye on our cashflow!

So it’s all systems go at Margate Caves HQ. We reckon it will take about a month before we start sending out rewards to our Crowdfunder backers. We’ll also be announcing some more events very soon. Don’t forget to keep in touch with us via our Facebook page while you’re waiting.

Reading about how the Margate Caves team managed to raise over £10,000 through their Crowdfunder honestly gave me chills — community projects like that are what keep local history alive. It also made me think about how important proper financial planning and sustainable funding can be when managing complex initiatives. I’ve recently come across 888starz Tanzania , and while it’s a totally different field (it’s a betting and entertainment platform), the way they handle transactions and fund management is surprisingly solid. The site feels reliable, and their system seems well thought out — kinda reminds me of how organized those community projects have to be behind the scenes. It’s interesting to see how both areas — community projects and online platforms…
