Access

Due to the nature of the Caves we’re afraid they are not accessible to wheelchair users or to anyone with significant mobility problems. Access is via two sets of stairs, both with handrails, followed by a steep, narrow, low-ceilinged tunnel. Once in the Caves, the floor is uneven and there are steep steps to access certain areas.

Assistance dogs are welcome of course, but no other dogs are allowed in the Caves. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the garden.

The visitor centre – including shop, café, toilets and community rooms for hire – is widely accessible. We have large-print versions of our exhibition available to download here.

We have fiddle kits and ear defenders available for those who may benefit from them. Just ask a member of staff on arrival.

Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions we haven’t answered, or require any assistance once on site.

We are always endeavouring to improve accessibility at the Caves, so please check back before your visit for any updates and see below for our full accessibility statement.

Group visits

Group Visits

We offer group rates for parties of 10 or more people – prices below. Group visits qualify for a 10% discount on our admission prices, require pre-booking and are subject to availability; we may be unable to accommodate bookings at busy times. To arrange a group visit, please email info@margatecaves.co.uk

We welcome group leaders free of charge in advance of your booking, to help you plan your visit. Free entry is also offered for coach drivers and there are coach drop-off points nearby.

During Your Visit

Large groups will be divided into smaller parties of 20 or so. Whilst one party visits the Caves, the rest of the group may use the café.

Our group visits are self-guided, which allows you to explore the Caves at your leisure.

However, we do have Caves Guides underground who are always happy to answer questions. We supply maps and information sheets free of charge.

Please see our Accessibility information for more information on access to the Caves for people with disabilities.
